November 2014 Newsletter
Message From the President
It’s been another busy month for LPS members and the committee as we lead up to the last one day seminar for the year, the university open day and had the AGM earlier this month.
On 4th November we held our AGM followed by a terrific off topic talk from Dr Michael de Podesta of the National Physical Laboratory. The talk was titled ‘How does anyone know what the temperature really is?’ and went down very well indeed. Great use of props and audience participation! The evening was very well attended and we achieved agreement on all matters, including the approval of the committee for 2015. Thank you to all who turned out for the evening and showed support.
On 26th November we had a one day University Open Day, this year being hosted at Royal Holloway. A great selection of talks, attendance and support. We are looking at the best dates to hold this event in 2015 to best suit graduates and perspective employers.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that our final one day seminar for 2015 will be held on 11th Dec 2014 which will be followed by the presidents evening. The title of the seminar is ‘Reservoir Fluids; Sampling & DFA, PVT & EOS, Waxy oils, Acid Gases, Asphaltenes & Water Chemistry’. Please register in the usual way, through links on the website where you will also find a full agenda and list of fabulous speakers for the day.
Finally, congratulations to Monika Adaszkiewicz, the 2014 winner of Dick Woodhouse award for young professionals. Monika was awarded with a cheque and this prestigious award by Mike Millar as shown in the photograph above. Very well done indeed Monika! We encourage applicants for 2015 to apply through the website.
All the very best. I look forward to seeing on 11th Dec for the seminar and subsequently the Presidents Evening at the King’s Head, W1S 4RXs.
