June 2015 Newsletter
Message From the President
A timely newsletter this month aimed at catching you with just enough time to register for the ‘Permeability- from reservoir Quality to the Simulator’ one day seminar! Please see the website for full line up of fabulous speakers, but rest assured it set to be a great event with several Operator talks including Shell, BG and Perenco plus some great Service provider talks and also an Academic talk. This is one that you really should not miss!
We had an excellent turn out for Dr Paul Worthington’s talk on 2nd June which provoked some fabulous enthusiastic discussion! 70 years on from Archie’s first publications water saturation still hold lots of elusive secrets and complexities that were discussed on the evening. The talk was titled ‘Evaluation of water saturation from electrical measurements: Where are we now?’ and was thoroughly enlightening and entertaining.
Our last evening meeting before the summer will be held on 21st July. Please come along to this free event with no registration necessary. Talk title is ‘Mancos Shale, Utah. Implications of Sequence Stratigraphy, Microfacies and Compositional Variability for Shale Gas Reservoir Structure’ to be delivered by Tracey Vaitekaitis from University of Manchester and a recipient of an LPS Iain Hiller award.
I should remind those of you who are considering the SPWLA 56th Annual Symposium, it is to be held on Long Beach, California between 18-22nd July this year. I would love to hear feedback from our European members that manage to make it as I will not manage to participate myself this year, but will have a paper being presented. It’s a time that reminds us that we should try to advocate and support our peers and also younger colleagues to publish their work in such an esteemed forum.
Finally, a shameless plug for our sister SPWLA chapter, AFES in Aberdeen. They are having their annual Hog Roast on 24th June with all proceeded going to the ARCHIE foundation. If you happen to be in Aberdeen at this time please considering joining them for this event. All details available on their website.
