January 2012 Newsletter
Message From the President
On behalf of the LPS committee, I wish you all a Happy New Year. I would like to thank Adam Moss for his sterling service as President over the last two years (and about 10 years before that in various roles on the committee) and look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role as Past-President.
Thank you to Baker Hughes and Schlumberger for sponsoring the President’s Evening Christmas party after the December seminar. Their continued support of the LPS is very much appreciated.
The beginning of the year is always a very busy time for the LPS. The New Technology Seminar is on the 9th January at the Geological Society, there are more details later in this Newsletter. This is an opportunity for the service companies to show off all their new bits of kit. The seminar is free and open to all.
This year’s University Open Day will be on the 1st February at the Derby University. The Open Day is our chance to promote Petrophysics to students studying geosciences.
The University Open Day will consist of presentations and trade show style displays from service companies and operators. We would like to get as many companies involved as possible.
If you would like to take part or just get more details, please contact the VP External Relations: Jeremy Farrow ( firstname.lastname@example.org ) Encouraging students to become Petrophysicists is a major focus for the LPS. It was great to see so many attend December’s Basic Formation Evaluation seminar. A total of 120 people attended the 2010 seminar and 26 of these were students and academics.
Please do not forget to get your membership renewal form in to Peter Fitch and we hope to see you soon at one of our events.
All the Best
Mike Millar : LPS President
