February 2016 Newsletter
Message From the President
Dear Member,Following our highly successful ‘New Technology’ seminar held in January, we have decided to make the presentations available *free* to all who renew their LPS membership (or join!) before 31st March. After your application is submitted, we shall send you instructions on how to download this material, representing the latest in technological innovations from a broad range of service companies. Further information can be found at www.lps.org.uk/membership Our Evening Lecture on 2nd February gave an interesting insight into many of the technologies available for formation evaluation behind casing, revealing a suprising amount of petrophysical data that can be acquired after the steel is cemented. Many thanks to Michel Claverie for presenting the physics of measurement alongside several case studies from Africa and the Middle East. Our next evening session on the 1st March will delve into EOR surveillance, specifically related to CO2 injection. Jonathan Hall is a recognized specialist in formation evaluation, and I look forward to learning from his experiences. Petrophysics-101 is the topic of our One Day Seminar on 17th March, and we have a great line-up of professional speakers to explain the nature of petrophysical data and teach the terminology for effective communication in your subsurface teams. This should appeal to all disciplines – geologists, reservoir engineers, geophysicists, petrophysicists or anyone needing a refresher course. Also in this newsletter we introduce Haydn Orme, one recipient of the LPS ‘Iain Hillier Academic Award’. Haydn is studying at Imperial College for an MSci degree in Geophysics, with a budding interest in Petrophysics. It has been a privilege to support an undergraduate such as Haydn during this early stage of her career. The next deadline for bursary applications is the 1st May 2016. Last but not least, I have included photos of our Executive Committee, so you can put a face to a name when you are chatting with us at our next meeting. I look forward to seeing you there!
