February 2015 Newsletter
Message From the President
Like so many of us closely watching, hopefully we have seen the new floor price and recovery of the barrel will now slowly and steadily start. On a related note, this is a good time to capitalise on the free-of-charge membership to LPS! We have decided for the first time to collect presentations from the New Technology seminar and make download of the same available to all current registered members for 2015. Please see the website for registration forms.
We had a good start to the year with a really impressive one-day New Technology seminar on 29th January. We managed to get representation from some companies with really nice new ideas along with the larger companies showing us what is new to the market. Some really fantastic presentations which I know where enjoyed by all from the feedback we got. Well done to all involved in making this happen and particular Liz Davis for organising all speakers.
The next evening meetig will be help on Tuesday 10th February. This talk, which will be presented by Professor Mike Lovell, considers the topics raised at the SPWLA topical conference in March 2014 ‘Educating the Petrophysicist’ the conclusions reached, and the developments since.
For our next one day seminar we be looking at ‘What’s so special about core analysis?’. This is the latest in the ‘Basic FE’ seminars of which we hold one each year. It’s aimed at giving a good introduction to core analysis and is aimed specifically at Petrophysicist and Geoscientists. Topics cover a lovely broad range of subjects from how to acquire good core data to more in depth matters such as wettability and relative permeability measurements. The seminar will be held on 26th March at the Geological Society and full details including registration can be found on the website.
I look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events.
