February 2014 Newsletter
Message From the President
At the evening lecture on 4th February, Dr Peter Fitch of Imperial University and SPWLA Distinguisher Lecturer in 2013 gave a fabulous talk which prompted much discussion entitled ‘Reservoir Quality and Reservoir Heterogeneity: petrophysical application of the Lorenz Coefficient’. Altogether some great work, giving us an insight to the ongoing research work in these complex carbonates.
During the evening meeting we were delighted to recognise the contributions of committee members who stepped down in 2014 with a small token of our appreciation (Jeremy Farrow, Adam Moss and Sas Parker) along with our Mike Miller our Past President.
The next one day seminar will be ‘Well Placement including Geomechanics and Geosteering’ on 18th March. A host of excellent speakers are lined up already, however at time of writing this there remains one slot available to present. If you would like to attend this event please go to the website for further details and registration forms. If you would like to fill this last speaker slot please email Dr Peter Fitch ( firstname.lastname@example.org )
Planning is well advanced on the rest of our technical programme for 2014. For evening meetings will have three further SPWLA distinguished speakers along with student talks from those whose studies have been sponsored by LPS. There will also be 3 further seminars in June, September and December covering determination of pay and use/abuse of cutoffs, Drilling 101, and Reservoir Fluids.
In coming months we will be experimenting with some social media in terms of a LinkedIn to help promote our society and events. Please look out for that and give us your support and comments!
All the best,
Iain Whyte: LPS President
