April 2015 Newsletter
Message From the President
I trust those of you who celebrate Easter had an enjoyable break and if, like me, you returned to work from some time off you are now conquering the ’email mountain’ !
I would like to update you with a couple of changes to the LPS Committee effective this month. Sadly for us, but an exciting new opportunity for him, Rob Leveridge is taking up a new role with Schlumberger in Saudi. Please join me in thanking Rob wholeheartedly for his stunning contribution over the years to LPS, not least bring a wonderful fresh look to our newsletters! Well done Rob, we wish you and Wendy every success and look forward to hearing how the new role goes.
Rob leaves us in the safe hands of Bilal Fazal, also of Schlumberger. Handover has already taken place and this is Bilal’s first newsletter as VP Communications & Newsletter. I think you will agree from content this month, he’s done a first class job on it! Welcome Bilal and we look forward to working closely with you on LPS committee.
There is also one further change that will take place this month. Mauricio Castellanos has decided to take a break from serving on the LPS committee. All the hard work with memberships has been thoroughly well appreciated Mauricio and we look forward to continuing to see you at LPS events hopefully even persuade you to get on the podium as a presenter soon.
Mauricio will be handing over to a colleague of mine here at Tullow and a familiar face at recent LPS events. Sharan Dhami will be taking over as VP Membership. Welcome also Sharan, we are a good bunch and I know you will enjoy working with the committee. We will update the website with contact details for both Bilal and Sharan imminently.
Now, back to an update on meetings held and upcoming! On 26th March we had a fabulously attended and thoroughly well programmed one day seminar titled ‘ What’s so Special About Core Analyses’. The day flowed wonderfully, taking us through planning and wellsite activities on to routine core analysis and then onto the more specialised measurements on special core analysis. It was great to see so many people attending, despite challenging economic times we find ourselves in at present. Well done to all those who organised and presented, in particular our very own Mike Millar who set the day up.
This note is very timely, as tomorrow we will have our April evening meeting which will include a talk from a student who has benefitted from LPS sponsorship, Thilo Wrona of Imperial College. Thilo will be talking about Silica diagenesis in the North Viking Graben, northern North Sea. We look forward to that and so please show your support coming along. As always, free to attend and no registration necessary.
Our next one day seminar is scheduled for 25th June and is titled ‘Permeability from Reservoir Quality to the Simulator’. Call for abstracts is still open so please contact Michael O’Keefe if interested in presenting – details are on the website.
I look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events.
