Title: Natural fractures and their implications for geothermal fluid flow: A case study from the Þeistareykir geothermal area, NE Iceland

Speaker: Aastha, NERC Panorama PhD student, University of Leeds

Description: Aastha’s research focuses on understanding the extent and impact of structural constraints on fluids and heat flow in the high-temperature Þeistareykir geothermal system in northern Iceland. Her research uses extensive borehole geological datasets for structural characterisation of natural fractures and developing fracture network models to assess the role of faults and fractures in regulating the permeability structure and fluid flow pathways within the reservoir — a key aspect for optimizing resource development and sustainable reservoir management.
