March 2016 Newsletter
Message From the President
Dear Member,The LPS has an outstanding technical archive of lectures from our rich history of ‘One Day Seminars’. These cover a wide range of disciplines in the upstream hydrocarbon industry. Our lecturers are leaders in their particular field, from geoscientists in oil & gas operators, to service company technologists and academics at notable universities. Presentations on any particular topic range from theory of measurement to interpretation, with valuable operational experience. Seminars back to 2012 are listed on Page 3 of this Newsletter, and you can check out the Abstracts on our website under the tab ’Publications’. The presentations may be purchased for a nominal fee (£20 per seminar). It is one small way our Society raises funds to support our numerous activities, and I advise you to place your orders now before the price increases later this Spring! The ’Petrophysics 101’ seminar on 17th March was attended by 60 delegates across a wide range of backgrounds, nationalities and demographics. It was pleasing to see a large proportion of the audience composed of young professionals. The presenters and presentations were all top standard, covering a great deal of information in a clear and timely fashion – covering clastics, carbonates and unconventionals. After an opening that informed as of the petrophysical properties of the perfect sandcastle, the key words repeated throughout the day were Integrate, Think, and Communicate. A very successful seminar with lively and enthusiastic discussions from all in attendance. Our next evening meeting is by a renowned SPWLA Distinguished Lecturer -Chanh Cao Minh – who will be presenting “Wettability from NMR on Fresh-state Cores”. This meeting has been brought forward from April to Wednesday 30th March, so there will be no evening lecture in April as we squeezed 2 into March! A Final Reminder to submit your free 2016 Membership Application before 31st March, to maintain your professional links to our active Society.
