The real CSI? The research behind Forensic (Geo)Science

Evening Lecture

The real CSI? The research behind Forensic (Geo)Science

Presenter – Professor Ruth Morgan, UCL

Forensic science has held the attention of the media for decades with the works of Conan Doyle and more recently the many series of TV programmes from Silent Witness to CSI. This talk will outline the interaction between science and the media, and highlight the important questions that research is seeking to address to ensure that forensic reconstructions are accurate and reliable. The scope of trace environmental materials to contribute valuable intelligence and evidence in crime investigations will be outlined with reference to a number of case studies that illustrate the value of forensic geoscience.
